Answers to common questions, and how to reach us.
Getting started
How do I add a subscription?
On the Wall tab, tap the wall to walk up to it, then tap any empty slot (the squares with a +). Search the catalog, or pick from Popular in your region, then fill in the price, currency, how often it renews and the next payment date, and tap Add. The tile goes into the slot you tapped.
My service isn’t in the catalog. Can I still add it?
Yes. Tap Custom in the catalog and type any name: rent, a gym, a newspaper, anything that charges you regularly. Choose a tile color, and if you like, pick a photo from your library as its logo. Otherwise the tile shows the name’s first letters.
Why does a tile say “Add price”?
Services you pick during setup are added without a price, because prices differ by country and plan. Walk up to the wall, tap the tile, tap Details and enter what you actually pay. Until then, it counts as zero in your totals.
How do I move tiles around?
Walk up to the wall and drag a tile onto another slot. An outline shows where it will land. Drop it on an empty slot to move it, or on another tile to swap the two.
How do I edit or delete a subscription?
Walk up to the wall, tap the tile and tap Details to change anything, including the price and the next payment. To delete it, tap the trash button in the top-right corner of the tile’s card. In the list view, swipe left on it and tap Delete. Subwall asks first, because deleting removes the tile, its reminders and its payment history for good. If you stopped paying and want to keep its history, set its Status to Cancelled in Details instead: the tile stays, faded, and History shows how much you’ve saved since.
How do I add a widget?
Touch and hold the Home Screen, tap Edit, then Add Widget, and search for Subwall. The Due this week widget is free: it shows what renews in the next seven days and what it adds up to. Subwall Pro adds Next payment, This month, a Mini wall of your tiles, and three Lock Screen widgets (touch and hold the Lock Screen, then Customize). If two subscriptions renew on the same day, Next payment shows both with their combined total. Widgets update when you change something in the app and at midnight; tap one to open Subwall.
What’s the difference between Paused, Cancelled and deleting?
In a subscription’s details, Status can be Active, Paused or Cancelled. Paused and cancelled tiles stay on the wall, faded, and stop counting towards what’s due. Cancelled subscriptions also show in History with how much you’ve saved since. Deleting removes the subscription completely, history included.
What is the “Paid with” field?
It’s an optional note of what each subscription is charged to, such as “Visa •1234” or “PayPal”. Subwall shows it in the reminder (“$15.49 will be charged to Visa •1234”), on the tile’s card and on the Calendar’s Due this week card, so you know which account to top up. Please don’t enter full card numbers or security codes: a nickname is all it needs.
The wall and calendar
What do “This month” and “Due this week” show?
This month is the total of every payment in the current month. Due this week is the total for today and the next six days, with the names of what’s due. Both sit above your tiles in the room view. Tap either one to open a card listing every payment behind it: each app, its date (or “Paid”), what it’s paid with and its amount. Tap Open Calendar for the full calendar, or tap outside the card to close it.
Why do some tiles have a yellow border?
A yellow border means that subscription has a payment due this week: today or in the next six days. They’re the same subscriptions the Due this week panel counts. The border goes away by itself once the payment date has passed.
How do I get to the calendar?
Swipe sideways on the wall, or tap Calendar in the switch at the bottom. The room slides along to a paper calendar, with payment days circled in each service’s color. Tap it to open the Calendar tab, then tap any day to see what renews.
What happens when my wall is full?
A wall holds 20 tiles. With Subwall Pro, once every slot is used a second wall of 20 appears where the calendar was, and the calendar moves further along. Swipe from wall to wall and on to the calendar; the dots above the switch show where you are. On the free plan you can have up to 7 subscriptions, so the first wall is enough.
What does the light switch do?
Tap the light switch on the wall, left of your tiles, or use Settings → Room lights. With the lights off, the room goes dark with a spotlight over your totals, and the whole app switches to dark mode. With the lights on, Subwall follows your device’s Light or Dark setting again.
Can I see my subscriptions as a list instead?
Yes. Turn on Settings → Show wall as a list for a plain list sorted by next payment. The list also appears automatically when VoiceOver is on. Turn the setting off to go back to the wall.
What’s behind the bell?
The bell at the top of the wall opens Notifications: what renews in the next two weeks, renewals and price changes from the last 30 days, and your default reminder. A dot on the bell means something is due in the next few days.
Reminders
When do reminders arrive?
By default, one day before each payment at 9:00 AM. In Settings, choose Remind me on the day, 1, 2 or 3 days before, or a week before, and pick the time with At. Each subscription can also have its own reminder, or none, in its details.
Can Subwall remind me before a free trial ends?
Yes. In a subscription’s details, turn on Free trial and set Trial ends. Subwall reminds you two days before, so you have time to cancel, and doesn’t send renewal reminders until the trial is over.
My reminders don’t arrive. What can I do?
Check these, in order:
- In iOS Settings → Notifications → Subwall, Allow Notifications is on.
- In Subwall’s Settings, Reminders is on and the time is right.
- The subscription is Active, and its own reminder isn’t turned off in its details.
- A Focus mode, such as Sleep, isn’t silencing notifications at that time.
Open Subwall once after changing a setting, so it can schedule the next reminders. iOS lets an app keep 64 reminders waiting at a time, so Subwall schedules the soonest ones and adds more each time you open it.
Money and currencies
I pay in more than one currency. How are totals shown?
Each subscription keeps the price and currency you entered, and its reminders say exactly what will be charged, like “$15.49”. Totals (on the wall, the calendar, the Calendar tab and History) add everything up in your Main currency, which you choose in Settings. When other currencies are converted in, the total is marked ≈, because your bank’s own rate and fees may differ a little.
Subwall uses the European Central Bank’s daily reference rates. It downloads them at most once a day, and only if you have a subscription in a currency other than your main one; nothing about you is sent. The last rates are saved, so totals keep working offline. A currency with no available rate is shown separately next to the total.
A service raised its price. What should I do?
Open the subscription’s details and enter the new price. Subwall records the change, so it shows in History and Notifications, and your earlier payments keep their old price. (Changes are recorded when the currency stays the same.)
How does History work?
History shows what you’ve spent month by month, by category, and recent activity: price changes, and cancellations with how much you’ve saved since. It’s worked out from each subscription’s start date, price and renewals. The free plan shows the last 3 months; 1Y and All come with Subwall Pro. When you add a subscription, turn on I know when I started paying to include earlier payments.
How do I cancel a subscription with the service?
Subwall can’t cancel anything for you: it never connects to your accounts. For many services from the catalog, the subscription’s details have a Manage or cancel link to that service’s own page. After you’ve cancelled there, set the subscription’s Status to Cancelled in Subwall, so History can count what you save.
Subwall Pro and purchases
What does Subwall Pro include?
Unlimited subscriptions (with a new wall every 20), full history and charts, six room themes, six calendar styles, Face ID lock and extra app icons. You can get Pro three ways: Pro Yearly, with a 7-day free trial; Pro Monthly; or Lifetime, a one-time purchase. All three include exactly the same features.
How does the free trial work?
Pro Yearly starts with 7 days free, once per Apple ID. When your trial starts, Subwall adds a Subwall Pro tile to your wall and reminds you 2 days before the trial ends. If you don’t cancel at least 24 hours before it ends, the yearly plan starts and Apple charges you. If you’ve already used your free week, the button says Subscribe instead. Pro Monthly and Lifetime have no free trial.
How do I cancel Pro Yearly or Pro Monthly?
In Subwall, go to Settings and tap Manage subscription. You can also open iOS Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions and Subwall. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid the next charge. Apple handles all subscription billing.
What happens when Pro ends?
Pro stays on until the end of the period you paid for. After that, your first 7 subscriptions (the ones you added first) stay on your wall with their reminders. Any newer ones are locked, not deleted: they keep their place and come back as soon as you get Pro again. History goes back to the last 3 months, Pro rooms go back to Sky, and Face ID lock turns off. Your room choice is remembered, so it comes back if you get Pro again.
I bought Pro but it isn’t active. What do I do?
Go to Settings in Subwall and tap Restore purchases, signed in with the same Apple ID you used to buy it. This also brings Pro to a new iPhone or iPad.
How do I get a refund?
Refunds are handled by Apple. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, and choose the Subwall purchase.
Themes, icons, sharing and Face ID
How do I change the room?
Go to Settings → Pro features → Room theme. Sky is free; Sage, Brick, Dune, Midnight, Lilac and Blocks come with Subwall Pro. Each card shows a preview of that room. The light switch works in every room.
How do I change the calendar’s style?
Go to Settings → Pro features → Calendar style. Classic is free; Kraft, Midnight, Blueprint, Botanical, Blush and Retro come with Subwall Pro. Each card shows this month in that style. Payment days are always circled in each service’s color.
How do I change the app icon?
With Subwall Pro, go to Settings → Pro features → App icon and choose Sky, Night or Amber. iOS shows a short message to confirm the change.
How do I share my wall?
Tap the share button at the top of the Wall tab. Subwall makes a picture of your tiles on your room’s wallpaper. Prices are hidden unless you turn on Show prices. Tap Share to post it or send it. If you choose Save Image, iOS asks once for permission to add photos to your library.
How does Face ID lock work?
With Subwall Pro, turn on Settings → Pro features → Face ID lock. Subwall then locks whenever you leave the app, and asks for Face ID (or your passcode) when you come back. Your face data never leaves your iPhone; Subwall only learns whether it matched.
How do I turn off the sounds?
Subwall plays short sounds when you flip the light switch and when you pick up, move or put back a tile. Turn them off in Settings → Sound effects. They also stay quiet when your iPhone or iPad is in Silent Mode, and they never stop music you’re playing.
Is there a dark mode?
Yes. Subwall follows your device’s Light or Dark setting. You can also switch the room’s lights off with the switch on the wall or Settings → Room lights, which puts the whole app in dark mode.
Your data
Where are my subscriptions stored?
Only on your iPhone or iPad. Subwall has no account, no server and no connection to your bank, so we never see what you track. See the Privacy Policy for details.
How do I move to a new iPhone or iPad?
Subwall’s data is included in your regular iPhone or iPad backup. Restore your new device from an iCloud or computer backup, or use Quick Start, and your wall comes along. Then tap Restore purchases in Settings to bring back Subwall Pro.
Does Subwall sync between devices?
Not yet. Each device keeps its own subscriptions, because Subwall has no account or server. Subwall Pro does carry over: on the other device, tap Restore purchases in Settings, signed in with the same Apple ID.
How do I delete my data?
Delete any subscription by tapping its tile on the wall, then the trash button on its card. To remove everything at once, go to Settings → Danger Zone → Reset All Data, type CONFIRM and tap Reset Everything. That deletes every subscription, price change, reminder and all your history, and shows the welcome screens again; your settings are kept. Deleting the app also erases everything it stored. Nothing is kept anywhere else, and your Subwall Pro purchase stays with your Apple ID.
